Using a laptop or desktop computer makes it easy to work with other content production software, such as image, video and audio editing. Although you can access a server from any computer on the local network, having Blocks installed on your laptop means that you can work locally on content production and test Spottar.

Installation

To install Blocks on your Mac, do the following:

1. Download the PIXILAB_Blocks.dmg installation file from the link below.

2. Open the DMG file, read and accept the license agreement.

3. After opening the disk image, a window similar to the one shown below will appear.

4. If this is the first time you are installing Blocks on this computer, run the installation file CmInstall.pkg. This installs the driver for the license key. You usually do not need to repeat this step when updating to a newer version of Blocks.

5. Drag the PIXILAB Blocks program icon to your Programs (or Applications) folder, or another suitable location.

6. Install the license file provided by an authorized reseller or distributor (requires internet connection).

Start the Blocks server

Locate PIXILAB Blocks in your Applications folder or where you installed it. To simplify future use, you can drag the program icon to the Dock. Then launch Blocks. This will open a window similar to the one shown below. Since all administration is done over the network, there is not much to see in this window. Open the Blocks Editor by clicking on the "Admin" button.

Windows PC

Although you can access a server from any computer on the local network, having Blocks installed on your laptop means you can work locally on content production and testing sites.

Installation

To install Blocks on your Windows computer, do the following:

1. Download the installation file PIXILAB_Blocks.zip from https://pixilab.se/docs/blocks.

2. Right-click on PIXILAB_Blocks.zip and select "Extract all" to unpack the ZIP archive.

3. A window will open with two icons, as shown on the right.

4. If this is the first time you are installing Blocks on your computer, run the installation file CodeMeter Runtime.exe. This installs the driver for the license key. You usually do not need to repeat this step when updating to a newer version of Blocks.

5. Double-click PIXILAB-Blocks-Installer.exe and follow the instructions to install Blocks.

6. Install the license file provided by an authorized reseller or distributor (requires internet connection).

Start the Blocks server

Click on PIXILAB Blocks Server in the Start menu. This will open a window similar to the one shown below. Since all administration is done over the network, there is not much to see in this window. You can open the Blocks Editor by clicking on the "Admin" button.

Access to the editor

Open the Blocks Editor by clicking the "Admin" button in the server window, or by going to the server IP address followed by /edit.
For example, if your Blocks server has the IP address 10.2.0.10, you can access the editor by typing the following in a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the server:

You will be asked to enter your username and password. The first time you start the server, there is only one user: admin, with the password pixi. You should change this password as soon as possible if the server is accessible to others (this is done on the "Manage" page, described under "Users"). After logging in, you should see a window similar to the one shown under "Editor" above.

Note that the IP port number used by the server (8080 in the example above) may vary depending on your server configuration. For example, the Linux server image uses the default port 80, which means you do not need to enter a port number.

Linux

For fixed installations, the Linux version of the server is recommended. Unlike the Mac and Windows versions, which can be installed on your personal computer, the Linux version of Blocks is intended for use on a dedicated server. This ensures the best possible long-term stability - especially when combined with known and tested hardware.

The Linux version of Blocks is provided in the following two forms:

• Pre-installed on server hardware from PIXILAB or one of our authorized resellers.

• As a pre-configured Linux image, for installation on approved hardware.
