The Shopbus modules are specifically designed for two reasons: first, to create large systems where more interfaces are needed than an XM controller with connected EM modules can offer. Secondly, they allow for large distances between multiple controllers when Elements are needed far apart. The Shopbus architecture allows the connection of multiple XM-like controllers with the possibility to use long cable lengths between the devices. At the same time, interfacing with the connected device can still be done through a single serial communication connection.
