BlueZOO - Flow (license)

BlueZoo Flow measures foot traffic throughout a day to track visitors' journeys from place to place in areas such as large buildings, hotels, airports or shopping centers. By tracking visitor walking patterns in aggregate, facility managers can better utilize public spaces.

Measuring activity
Flow characterizes foot traffic 'journeys' by measuring how visitors move between locations, where a location is defined as a group of sensors. Trips differ from 'visits' because they measure visitor presence across groups of sensors. You define the groups of sensors to be used in each study. Journeys provide a powerful analytical tool for anonymous measurement of foot traffic over large areas.

Flow measures visitation patterns in three ways:

• Correlation measures the proportion of visitors who have visited one location and who have also visited another location. Correlation is independent of direction and whether other visits have been direct or indirect. Correlation generates N*(N-1)/2 values for each time period.
• Transition measures the proportion of visitors moving from one location to another. Unlike correlation, transition is directional. Transition generates N*(N-1) values for each period, with separate values for each direction of transition.
• Duration measures the duration of trips to a collection of groups. For the time period studied, Duration measures the number of trips that include 1 group, 2 groups and N groups. Duration also measures the average trip duration for each of the N segments.

Usage
An example of how BlueZoo Flow can be used to show the traffic flow within an area is by integrating data from a set of BlueZoo sensors. Here is a general case, with multiple inputs and multiple interior points.

Measuring the probabilities of a visitor taking a particular route can guide decisions regarding signage, tenant placement and rent levels. Even the location of parking or transportation entrances can dramatically affect consumer travel through the area. Collecting this data over time can provide important insights for operators of hotels (or shopping centers, airports or amusement parks).

BlueZoo measures the number of visitors arriving at each entrance/entrance and moving to other locations, either inside or outside (other entrances/entrances).

Each location measures foot traffic with its own BlueZoo sensor. The more sensors used, the more detailed the recording of the traffic flow.

BlueZoo can deliver transaction data for visualization using third-party tools. Sankey charts are a popular option for visualizing such data. Another option is to overlay flow distributions on a physical map or floor plan, which tracks the percentage of pedestrians moving from one point on the map to an adjacent point.

The end result is instant quantification of foot traffic. These measurements can be delivered for any time period, whether it is a full month, week or day.

To work, the sensor needs to be combined with one or more licenses. The basic license is called Count and is always needed. Then you can build on in the following order:
